A Samui favourite for many years, Zazen is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of island life. Situated overlooking a beautiful beach, here executive chef Trakulsak Yaoyuan and his team produce dishes that fall very much into the fine dining category.

Zazen’s culinary offerings are manifold with a range of starters, earth and ocean options, a dedicated lobster menu and extensive Thai dishes listed on the discovery and a la carte menus. Open with a signature starter of waygu beef carpaccio stuffed with truffle mash and served with rocket salad, pine nuts and parmesan cheese. An equally delicious alternative is tuna and scallop tartare with fresh herbs, lime and virgin oil marinade. From the lobster menu try the succulent poached Canadian lobster with beetroot puree, roasted peppers and a Thai basil and green apple sauce. A highlight of the earth main course offerings is caramelised duck breast with five spices served with zucchini and prune and ginger stew. Zazen has a delighful dessert menu featuring many European classics but for a sweet and savoury finish enjoy the Philippe Olivier cheese selection—four cheeses served with home-made bread, dried fruits, jams and butter.
