Volti Ristorante & Bar has a concise but considered menu of Italian classics including starters, soups, pastas and risottos, pizzas and main courses. The restaurant’s location at the Shangri-La Hotel on the banks of the Chao Phraya River is inviting, as is its lofty art deco interior.

Imported Italian octopus presented on a bed of seasoned potato cubes and garnished with taggia olives and cherry tomatoes is a good opener. The dish is well complemented by another starter of crisp bruschetta topped with fresh goat’s cheese and thyme. From the pasta menu, the signature fettuccine porcini with hand-made pasta is a popular choice. The pasta is cooked al dente and given a lift by the earthy, nutty flavours of the mushrooms. For a main course try the recommended lamb chops served with cous cous. The chops are grilled to crisp perfection on the outside but remain succulent and tender on the inside. An alternative is roasted sea bass and potatoes in a delightful bright saffron sauce. Both mains go well with the authentic flavours of a Caesar salad on the side. To finish the meal look no further than the classic tiramisu.
