WHY GO? Taste Bar & Grill has successfully transplanted the hugely popular Taste restaurant at Surin to a new location in Bangtao. Unpretentious, moderately priced, simple meals in a new, airy, pleasant setting.
WHAT TO ORDER? The menu features a large mixture of Thai/Western appetisers, the pick of which is Maryland crab cakes with dill sauce. Swedish chef/ owner Martin Oustlind and wife Jade know to keep the menu light but eclectic; chicken curry from her native Nepal, for example. Moules marinieres with wine and shallots is delicious while two pulled pork sliders with charcoal grilled pork and a dab of coleslaw are surprisingly elegant. Flatbread with taleggio, gorgonzola and sauteed mushrooms is light, colourful and tantalisingly flavoursome. Pavlova and crunchy mango crumble are two excellent desserts.
DRINKS Sauvignon blancs feature strongly to match the many light, seafood dishes but there are enough reds to satisfy those wanting a deeper taste.
