WHY GO? Sam’s Steak & Grill has been a top destination on Phuket since 1991 for lovers of Australian beef. It was recently upgraded with fresh interiors. Tableside service for classics such as caesar salad, chateaubriand, crepes suzette and Irish coffee is a new feature. WHAT TO ORDER? A memorable dinner should start with crisp pan-fried foie gras or a selection of oysters, whether Australian or French. More than half the guests are from outside the resort, drawn to such popular items as andaman beef and reef, a combination of grass-fed Australian fillet with Phuket lobster, flambeed at the table. Guests can choose a 500-gramme chateaubriand tenderloin served tableside or a classic fillet wellington for two. As alternatives to beef, there’s Australian rack of lamb, kurobuta pork tenderloin and belly or seafood en papilotte, with scallops, prawns, mussels and fish in a lobster-fennel broth, baked in its own bag.
