A failsafe opener on the well considered Thai-international menu is ahi tartare topped with avocado relish. Marinated in herbs, the finely diced cubes are served alongside fresh lime, sesame wonton crisps and a dash of chilli oil. Another generously portioned starter is satay ruam, char-grilled skewers of chicken, pork and beef. Main courses such as chu chee ruam mitr comprising large river prawns, scallops, grouper fish and mussels drizzled in a rich can’t-get-enough curry sauce with strong notes of kaffir lime, signpost Sala Rattanakosin’s flair for comforting flavours and unfussy presentation. Slow-cooked duck confit is another winner—the truffle fondue and parmesan sauce the perfect foil for the tender meat. Go for white chocolate cheescake for a belt-busting finish or mango and vanilla pana cotta for something lighter.
