Setting

Rivet is the elegant dining room at newly renamed The Slate, a member of Design Hotels. The restaurant is intensely stylish with motifs referencing the legacy of tin mining on Phuket. The menu has Japanese influences.

Food

The Rivet recently rebranded as a contemporary Asian bistro. Chef Giovanni Palanyandi trained in the kitchens of Nobu in Cape Town, South Africa and offers a menu of flavours from around Southeast Asia. Diners have the option of choosing small plates to share the wonderful entrees. Seaweed wrapped tuna roll is lightly battered then quickly deepfried to retain a fresh taste. Hot starters include an exciting dish of salmon spiced Indonesian-style and a warm Japanese prawn salad with chilli dressing. The boutique menu offers just seven main dishes including lobster tandoori served with sweet potato, snow peas and coriander beurre blanc. Another item in the Japanese style is a delicious dish of cod served with roasted eggplant, truffle miso, asparagus and eryingi mushroom. The final pleasure is Sichuan pepper creme brulee with almond biscotti served with passion fruit sorbet. Divine.

Wine

A big wine list with 140 labels offers a wide range of choice. Davide Allegri, the Rivet’s sommelier, provides a full bodied Sardinian Turrega Isola de Nuraghi IGT to match the chosen menu.
