WHY GO? Palm Seafood is an elegant addition to seafront dining on Surin beach. The restaurant is sophisticated and spacious but accepts diners in the most casual wear. Head chef Pui Nuttanun has set an impressively high bar for Thai seafood cuisine.
WHAT TO ORDER? Four kinds of oysters and a large selection of sushi and sashimi lead off. Andaman fresh bouillabaisse is also good. Linguini with prawns, skagen prawn toast (a Danish delight), caviar and smoked salmon tartar are rich, alluring starters. Blue crab in delicate yellow curry (finger bowl provided) and tuna with scallops pleasure the palate. A separate lobster grilling station is a nice feature. Red meat lovers are not forgotten of course, with New Zealand lamb and Australian beef available. Desserts such as tiramisu, chocolate brownie and coconut ice cream round off the meal.
DRINKS Eight whites—it is a seafood restaurant after all— dominate a small but exquisitely thoughtful wine list.
