Setting

Established in 2015, Mikaku from Gion, Kyoto has quickly made a name for itself for its fantastic meat selection and teppanyaki served in an authentic setting.

Rating : 17/20

Food

As you enter the restaurant and are led to your table, you quickly realise you are in for a superior teppanyaki experience. The knowledgeable waiting staff are happy to answer your questions about the various cuts of beef. The kobe beef tenderloin oil yaki is a house specialty served on a simple bed of chopped spring onion, as is the equally impressive kyoto beef sirloin sukiyaki. The classic kobe tenderloin is cooked to perfection and served with a beautiful presentation of specialty salts and other condiments— although diners should also be sure to taste a piece unseasoned to really enjoy its melt-in-the-mouth succulence. The service from start to finish is impeccable and it is an experience to watch the expert chefs prepare your meal in front of you.

Rating : 35/40

Wine

Mikaku has a small but considered wine list with some particularly enjoyable full-bodied reds to complement the superb beef. Traditional Japanese sake is also available.
