Situated at the casual-cool Piman 49 community mall complex, this legendary som tum and grilled chicken joint is run by third generation owner MR Srikhamrung Yukol Rattakul, or Khunying Mangmoom. Expect authentic Isan cuisine and a vibrant atmosphere.

While Isan basic som tum poo plara, or papaya salad with salted freshwater crabs and Thai anchovies, is a popular order, seafood fans are recommended the alternative of tangy Thai som tum on perfectly deep-fried sea bass. When in season, also go for tum talingpling or bilimbi salad, in which shrimp paste delectably complements the tartness of the fruit. The signature grilled chicken has tender meat and crisp skin, but if you fancy a more creative recipe, try fried chicken wings stuffed with aromatic black sticky rice. For beef lovers, well-seasoned grilled steak is served with flavourful nam jim jaew, or spicy Isan dried chilli dipping sauce. Another favourite is plump snails in a sweet and savoury soup of red curry and coconut milk. End with mildly sweet coconut pudding or coconut ice cream topped with roasted peanuts.
