Setting

An American chain dating back to 1964, Benihana serves teppanyaki at its best with excellent ingredients and culinary showmanship.

Rating : 16/20

Food

There is a choice of rolls, sushi, sashimi and salads but the main event is the teppanyaki and the theatrical cooking display put on by the chefs. Teppanyaki sets include an appetiser, soup, salad, stir-fried vegetables and rice. They offer a wide choice of ingredients and are best shared. Recommended is Hokkaido scallops with foie gras. Three plump fresh scallops and rich foie gras make this a superior teppanyaki set. Also good is the signature Benihana special consisting of kobe rib cap, half a western lobster and Mexican abalone. As the chef is cooking your food right in front of you–think twirling spatulas and flashing knives–you can ask him to stop and serve up at any time depending on whether you like your food well done or not. Finish with a feel-good dessert such as banana flambe, lemon short cake or ice cream tempura.
