Begin with a truly authentic miang kham bua laung, a betel leaf snack with the clever twist of lotus petal leaves. Well balanced with a spicy dip, it is a refreshing appetiser. Follow with a classic soup such as tom som pla kapong, which is hot and sour and filled with generous chunks of sea bass. Continue with a dish of several large river prawns, juicy and tender in a sweet and rich tamarind sauce or alternatively try crab curry comprising fresh melt-in-the-mouth crab meat in a smooth and punchy yellow sauce. Vegetarians are also well catered for with a choice of tofus and vegetables including sunflower sprouts, which add a crunchy texture to dishes. To end, choose a simple home-made ice cream such as black sticky rice or pandan. Also try matoom chuem, which is sweet bale fruit matched with creamy coconut ice cream.
