Review

Setting

A loyal fan base of regulars vouch for this authentic Roman-style trattoria. Diners rub shoulders in close proximity to each other, lending an overall buzz to the chatty atmosphere. There is nothing pretentious or too fancy here and everything seems remarkably good value for the quality of food on offer.

Food

The simple one-page menu offers a selection of things to eat with bread to get you started. Try roasted red peppers and grilled egg plant, marinated mushrooms in olive oil, or the plate of cheeses and cold cuts. Main courses include a stew of fresh seafood in white wine sauce with tomatoes and herbs, porchetta made with organic pork roasted with fennel rosemary and garlic, and also to share a whole roasted chicken. To stay with the sharing theme, pick a few sides such as creamy polenta with gorgonzola or eucalyptus honey glazed carrots to complement the mains. One overriding impression is that the kitchen is keen to keep everything plain and simple. Good food well cooked with nothing to get in the way.

Wine

A well-priced list of mostly Italian and other European wines. Well-heeled regulars not yet sold on good-value Italian wines take advantage of the fair corkage charge.
